I spent yesterday evening playing around with my purple nail polishes (and other nail goodies) and came up with 5 simple and easy nail art ideas for beginners. These designs are easier to do than they look, and they all use some shade of purple. Purple is one of my favorite colors, for nail art and other things, so I thought it's high time I did a few designs with it to publish here.

Purple French Tip with Homemade Decals
This is one of my favorite purple nail designs so far, and it's easy and a lot simpler than it looks. The image above shows it just before I trimmed off my homemade stickers. I used sticky tape and nail polish to make the stickers and then cut them into strips and rectangles to stick onto the nail. I started off with a nude polish on the entire nail, painted on the French tip in purple polish, and then added the stickers on top. Read the nail art tutorial hub I wrote for this design to see step-by-step pictures.

Purple Nail with Diagonal Flowers and Glitter
This simple and easy nail design is one that anyone could do at home. I painted the entire nail with a lovely purple nail polish, and then added in the flowers using OPI LIncoln Park after Dark and a set of dotting tools. I created the centers of the flowers using silver glitter polish and a slightly smaller dotting tool. It looks like rhinestones, but isn't, so I thought that was rather cool!

Dark Purple Nail with Chevron Glitter Tip and Rhinestones
This purple nail art design is another very easy one to do, and is one of my newest nail ideas that I'm going to do a full manicure of on myself. The nail polish I used looks black, but it's really a very dark purple. It's OPI Lincoln Park after Dark, and is the same one I used for the flowers in the design above. I painted the entire nail with it and then added the chevron tip using holographic silver glitter polish. Lastly, I added on the rhinestones while the polish was still wet to help them stick nicely.

Pastel Purple Nail Design with Flower Decals
I love pastel purple nails and I've not done very many designs in it yet, so I figured I'd better do at least one for this Hub. I painted the entire nail with a pastel purple polish and then added flower decals to form a sideswipe or 'diagonal' tip. I trimmed the decals around the edges with a small pair of scissors to give it a nice finish. Decals can be expensive but I got mine on ebay. I bought a total of 60 sheets and got them dirt cheap, so if you're going to try this design, be sure you have enough of these flower decals handy.

Magnetic Purple Polish with Pink Glitter Stripes
This design is so simple and easy to do that it's almost funny, but the effect is pretty amazing. I used a magnetic purple polish as a base and used a magnet with diagonal stripes to create the 'striped' effect. I then used a pink glitter liner to add the glitter stripes. This design just comes to life when the light hits it, and everyone is sure to notice your nails if you try this design at home.
These simple and easy nail art ideas for beginners will help you create stunning manicures in less than 30 minutes. The tools I used for these designs were minimal, and many of the items I worked with can be found around the home (like nail scissors and sticky tape). A few basic nail art tools and a few shades of purple polish is all you need to do these designs yourself, and you'll save a lot of money in the long run as well. DIY nail art designs and manicures are not only stunning, they're lots of fun as well.
